Are Celsius Energy Drinks Actually Good For You?
By ANNE TAYLOR
Celsius Energy Drinks not only provide caffeine, but also claim to burn calories by boosting metabolism with their thermogenic properties. These drinks also contain loads of essential vitamins and no sugar, high fructose corn syrup, artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors — but does all this mean they're good for you?
According to the company's website, Celsius drinks consist of ginger, green tea, guarana, and taurine, an amino acid believed to support heart health and ward against diabetes. The sparkling drink also contains chromium, a mineral that may help stabilize blood sugar levels and keep cravings away, but you shouldn't depend on these drinks to lose weight.
Celsius names a few studies supporting their claims of heightened metabolism, but this effect is short-lived, and thermogenic drinks have never been proven to support weight loss. Still, these drinks unquestionably have a ton of vitamins, including vitamin C, B vitamins, riboflavin, and even 1000% of the daily recommended amount of biotin.
As with all energy drinks, it is best to drink Celsius in moderation, especially since the company hasn't disclosed how much of each ingredient is in each can — and too much of anything can be a bad thing. Try to consume small amounts of energy drinks, then gradually increase your intake if there are no ill effects, but still aim for one can a day.
