Can Coffee Reduce Your Risk Of Depression?

Psych Central suggests that caffeine could reduce depression in adults because of its effects on the brain and nervous system. Adenosine is a substance in the brain which causes you to feel sleepy, and caffeine can block it.

Five or more cups of coffee can lead to negative side effects like anxiety, agitation, headaches, and rambling speech, they write. The FDA says that 400 mg of caffeine (about four cups of coffee) is a safe daily intake for non-pregnant adults, and this is the same number suggested by a Harvard School of Public Health study that connected coffee and reduced depression risk in women.
