Fact Or Fiction: Does Coffee Actually Stunt Your Growth?
By A. SOOTER
There are many myths surrounding coffee and its effects, including the one that claims drinking coffee can stunt your growth and cause osteoporosis. Experts have since debunked these myths stating there is no link between height and coffee.
This idea started when some researchers thought they had found evidence indicating that coffee drinkers had trouble absorbing calcium, but other researchers tried to replicate the results and failed. Instead, reviews of the original studies found that the people with low calcium levels simply ate "substantially less calcium" than is recommended.
Osteoporosis is "a disease that weakens bones to the point where they break easily" caused by a loss of bone density. Many people mistakenly believe that this is linked to caffeine intake, but you can't lose height once unless you start to suffer a spine curvature — as of now, there are no accusations of coffee having that drastic of an effect.
