How Much Sugar Is In Kombucha?
By VINCENT MADRONE
Currently, one of the most popular beverages in the market is Kombucha, and these flavorful beverages may have health benefits backed by science. However, some experts warn that some brands may contain an excessive amount of sugar, and drinking too many may lead to health problems.
Sugar is a necessary ingredient in Kombucha as it feeds the bacteria that drive the fermentation process, but some brands add as much as 28 grams of sugar per serving — the same amount as an 8.5 oz glass of Coca-Cola. That said, always check the sugar content on the label before buying.
The most common Kombucha brands have 10 grams of sugar or less per serving, including Health-Ade Kombucha (6 grams) and Brew Dr. Kombucha (10 grams). If you want to enjoy Kombucha’s health-boosting oxidants better while avoiding too much sugar, consider making it at home.
