How Soda Impacts Your Bladder
By SABIKA HASSAN
The bladder is one of the body's most essential organs, and it's also at a high risk for complications that can be far more impactful than issues with other organs. If you're not careful, the bladder can become susceptible to issues such as bladder cancer, inflammation due to infection, or urinary incontinence.
One of the primary triggers for bladder complications is unhealthy dietary habits, such as consuming too much caffeine or carbonated drinks. A 2007 study published in Epidemiology found that those who drank two sodas per day had a significantly higher risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD), an illness associated with bladder issues.
WebMD warns that drinking large amounts of other carbonated drinks, such as sparkling water, can also lead to urinary incontinence or an overactive bladder. They suggest limiting alcoholic beverage intake as well, as it could trigger involuntary urine leakage, particularly for those who already have bladder incontinence problems.
