It Could Be A Warning Sign Of Diabetes If Your Skin Looks Like This
By SABIKA HASSAN
Diabetes is a long-term illness that affects the body's ability to process sugar, and can cause other conditions such as heart disease, vision, hearing loss, diabetic neuropathy, and even Alzheimer's or dementia. There are warning signs to look out for when it comes to diabetes, one of which is changes in your skin.
Diabetes may impact proper blood circulation, which could cause numbness in your limbs and dry and itchy skin around the feet and lower legs. Consistently high blood sugar levels may also increase the risk of fungal and bacterial skin infections, such as styes around the eyes or nail infections.
Another condition to look out for is diabetic dermopathy, which causes scaly patches on the skin that appear blackish-brown in color. Fortunately, these conditions can be remedied at home by keeping skin clean and applying moisturizer, but for severe cases, seek medical guidance from a dermatologist.
