The One Body Part That Ages Faster Than Everywhere Else
By NICOLE LAMARCO
Einstein's theories of relativity helped researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) study if one part of your body ages faster than the others. What they discovered is astonishing.
What Einstein theorized was that time passes quicker at higher elevations. The physicists studied this theory on the human body, using atomic clocks set one foot apart, and found that you age faster while standing two stairs up on a staircase than standing at the bottom.
This means your head ages faster than the rest of your body, and your feet age the slowest, because they are closest to the ground. The good news is that the age difference is too small for you to notice — "up to approximately 90 billionths of a second over a 79-year lifetime," according to the researchers.
