Chopping or chewing raw broccoli activates sulforaphane. For best results, eat raw or steamed broccoli, but avoid boiling or microwaving it as it reduces the important nutrients.
A 2019 Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry study found that even cooked broccoli can foster a healthier gut microbiome, especially in people with a body mass index lower than 26.
If you're not a fan of broccoli, opt for other Brassica vegetables like cauliflower, cabbage, collards, and radishes. Research has shown that they can also help you poop.
