How Beyonce Uses Music To Stay In Shape

Beyoncé has remained in shape throughout her career, maintaining a strong body after giving birth to three children — including twins (per People) — and continuing to work the stage during demanding world tours (per Hypebae). However, the superstar has worked hard and even risked her health at times for the sake of her physique. According to Insider, she has a long history of trying extreme and restrictive diets, including the Master Cleanse diet, a type of juice fast that's low in nutrients and considered unsustainable for health.

The singer also documented the weight loss plan she followed before performing at Coachella in a YouTube video, which was used to promote the 22 Days Nutrition program created by her trainer. While the program follows a plant-based regimen, which can be beneficial in some cases, the diet was also found to be overly restrictive and lacked sufficient calories, Dana Hunnes, senior dietitian at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, told Vice.

Beyoncé's eating habits may not be recommended for everyone. But for those looking to stay in shape like Queen Bey, inspiration can be found in her workout routine. Even if you don't have a celebrity-level personal trainer, your earphones may be enough to help you channel Beyoncé at the gym.

Listening to music motivates Beyoncé during workouts

On days when you don't feel like working out, turn on an energizing playlist to fire up your body. Beyoncé names music as a major motivator to help her power through workouts. The singer once told Self, "I'll put on a song that I really like and I'll do [bicep curls with] 5-pound weights for the duration of the song and just try to burn out." Staying fit, she noted, is "more about your mental strength than physical strength. You have to push yourself" (per US Weekly). Music keeps her focused during her Power Moves workout plan, which challenges multiple muscle groups at once.

Choosing to listen to music while working out is a science-backed hack to give workouts a boost. According to Healthline, numerous studies show that music increases motivation, improves endurance and coordination, and makes exercising easier and more enjoyable. And coincidentally, Beyoncé herself makes the perfect workout jams. One 2021 study by clothing and shapewear brand Pour Moi showed that listening to Beyoncé improved runners' performance more than any other pop musician used in the test. Beyoncé's music was found to improve the runners' personal records by as much as 33 seconds per kilometer.
