Side-By-Side Photos Of Female Celebrities Over 50 Who Live By Their Workout Routines

At some point in our lives, our brains tell us that it's time to stop working out. According to a 2025 study published in The Journals of Gerontology: Series A, on average, that point comes around when we turn 49. In a chat with Axios, Timothy Morris, a co-author of that study and an assistant professor of physical therapy, human movement, and rehabilitation sciences at Northeastern University, said that aging altered the "salience network" of the brain, which was responsible for impulses.

Due to the changes, a person may not have the natural urge to move past a sedentary lifestyle. Speaking to John Hopkins Medicine, Alexis Coslick, D.O., a sports medicine and rehabilitation expert at Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center, shared how women fared with staying active as they aged. "Of those in their 50s and 60s, only 30% are meeting aerobic training recommendations and only 6% meet strength training recommendations," she said. A 2022 study published in BMC Public Health found that the causes for the drop-off in exercise in middle-aged women could range from health reasons like menopausal changes to functional concerns like gyms not being inclusive enough for their age group.

However, if you stop exercising in your 50s, you could miss out on future health benefits. According to a 2000 study in Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, women in their 50s who regularly exercise could experience better bone mineral density and potentially stave off osteoporosis. They could also be less likely to experience falls or develop chronic illnesses. To help promote all the benefits of exercising as we age, many female celebrities have been open about their workout routines.

Courteney Cox

In September 2022, Courteney Cox told Marie Claire that her weekly workout routine consisted of two sessions of tennis and one Pilates workout. Although she had thoroughly enjoyed weekly boxing sessions, she had to give them up because of her knee pain. Going forward, the "Scream" star also hoped to prioritize weight training.

During a February 2023 Vogue interview, Cox revealed that she was working with a personal trainer who had started out as a physical therapist for her back issues. A typical strength training session for Cox consisted of a treadmill circuit followed by two strength training exercises and one core exercise.

Halle Berry

Speaking to Women's Health Magazine in June 2020, Halle Berry shared that when she was in her 20s, she used to work out for the sole purpose of meeting her aesthetic goals. After receiving a diabetes diagnosis at 22, her perspective shifted, and she started exercising to feel like her best self. Once the "Monster's Ball" star had kids, she decided to work out to be the strongest version of herself for their sake.

In a March 2018 E! News interview, Berry's personal trainer, Peter Lee Thomas, revealed that she usually worked out five times a week. Thomas also shared that Berry had developed enough upper-body strength to do just about every push-up variation.

Cindy Crawford

Speaking on the "Him & Her" podcast in July 2024, Cindy Crawford shared that she usually works out four or five times per week. For the past decade or so, Pilates has been a staple in her regimen. On other days, she gets in a strength training session with her personal trainer, which includes more "old school" exercises like push-ups, lunges, and free weights.

If her schedule permits, she also goes on a hike with a friend or tries to swim once a week. Crawford also stressed that she doesn't view her workouts as a means to push herself past her limits but rather a long-term sustainable habit (via Instagram).

Victoria Beckham

In a November 2023 chat with Vogue, Victoria Beckham's personal trainer, Bobby Rich, revealed that she worked out five days a week, whether she was at home or on the road. Most of the time, the fashion icon did a weight-training session.

Meanwhile, in a January 2024 Women's Health Magazine interview, Rich revealed that Victoria wasn't initially familiar with the good things that happen to your body when you lift weights every day. However, once he made her aware of all the benefits, she didn't hesitate to try it out and eventually became fully dedicated to it.

Jennifer Lopez

During an October 2025 appearance on "CBS Mornings" (via Facebook), Jennifer Lopez admitted that she used to push her limits when working out in her younger years. However, as she had grown older, she had learned to "work smarter, not harder." So, she had consulted with a personal trainer to create 40-minute weight lifting sessions that would get her the most bang for her buck.

Lopez shared that she preferred to prioritize strength training because the muscles would help burn fat and keep her looking "youthful." Suffice it to say that Lopez knows exactly what lifting weights can really do for your body.

Michelle Obama

In October 2019, Michelle Obama took to Instagram to share a photo of herself working out for #SelfCareSunday. In the caption, the former First Lady wrote, "It doesn't always feel good in the moment. But after the fact, I'm always glad I hit the gym." Meanwhile, in a May 2015 YouTube video shared for the #GimmeFive challenge, Obama's then-personal trainer, Cornell McClellan, shared that her workout routine had plenty of variety to keep things interesting.

So, her workout routine unsurprisingly consisted of boxing, plyometric movements like in-and-out squats, cardio moves like jumping rope, and classic strength training exercises like an incline chest press.

Gabrielle Union

Speaking to People in October 2025, Gabrielle Union opened up about her workout routine, noting, "I swear by Pilates, lightweight training, dance parties with Robin [Thede] and the rest of our friends." The "Bring It On" star seemed particularly partial to Pilates because she practiced it three times a week. She also believed that balance went a long way in her health journey.

During a January 2026 appearance on "Flow Space," Union shared that she wasn't too big on sweaty cardio sessions and instead preferred exercises like light jogging that would get her heart rate up to around 160 bpm (via YouTube).

Jennifer Aniston

Speaking to InStyle in June 2023, Jennifer Aniston confessed that her long-standing belief that a 45-minute cardio session was vital for a good workout hadn't served her body well in the long run. So, she had bidden farewell to that notion after discovering Pvolve through a friend.

Pvolve is a form of low-impact training that makes use of joint-friendly resistance equipment like resistance bands, ankle weights, gliders, and light dumbbells. The "Friends" alum shared that the workout method struck the perfect balance between being too difficult and too easy, adding, "After a workout, I don't feel insane fatigue or broken or in pain."

Naomi Campbell

During a June 2017 appearance on "Lorraine," Naomi Campbell shared that she had started to diligently practice circuit-training workouts about two years prior. The supermodel added that she preferred the format to a more traditional weight-training session with machines because of the added variety (via YouTube).

Through a January 2019 YouTube video for Vogue, we learned that Campbell's 20-minute workout routine started with a foam roller stretch. After doing some core work, she got into resistance exercises using bands, blocks, light dumbbells, kettlebells, and her body weight. To get her heart rate going, Campbell even managed to do a couple of sets of jumping rope (via YouTube).
