Taylor Swift Was On The Road For Nearly 2 Years During The Eras Tour & It Took A Toll On Her Health

For nearly two years, Taylor Swift spent almost all of her weekends putting on a grueling three-and-a-half-hour show for the Eras Tour. When Swift appeared on the "New Heights" podcast in August 2025, her now-brother-in-law Jason Kelce asked her if she missed being out on the road. Swift acknowledged that while she occasionally reminisced on those days, she admitted they were extremely physically demanding for her.

"It was a lot of physical therapy, and it was a lot of being in a state of perpetual physical discomfort — kind of like when you're in season," Swift said, alluding to her now-husband Travis Kelce's career as a pro football player. The "Cruel Summer" hitmaker and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end couldn't help but reminisce on how he had seen her "recovery room" after her concerts and how she had used toe spacers and acupuncture mats.

Swift endured similar recovery processes as Travis because dancing in high heels for hours on end had taken a toll on her body. Swift has undoubtedly experienced everything that happens to a person's body when they wear high heels every day. Chatting with the American Osteopathic Association, Sajid A. Surve, DO, explained that wearing high heels didn't just affect the foot but also led to lower back, neck, and shoulder pain by causing a misalignment of joints and muscles. Speaking to Hartford Healthcare, John Reach, MD, professed that people who regularly wear high heels may also experience imbalance, poor posture, chronic foot pain, and tears and fractures in the foot.

Taylor Swift has been candid about her post-show recovery process

During a December 2025 appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," Taylor Swift shared that she had been down with the stomach flu "multiple" times during the Eras Tour. However, the songstress was determined not to let the audience see that she was dealing with the stomach flu. Although Swift was "constantly in a lot of physical pain," she knew she could always count on her Versace bodysuit to get her in the mood to perform for a crowd of thousands.

Behind the scenes, though, the Grammy winner let herself feel the toll of the show. Speaking to Time in December 2023, Swift described her rest day: "I do not leave my bed except to get food and take it back to my bed and eat it there. It's a dream scenario. I can barely speak because I've been singing for three shows straight. Every time I take a step my feet go crunch, crunch, crunch from dancing in heels."

Swift realized that performing would take a toll on her physical health because she started preparing her body early on. In an episode of "The End of an Era" that showed clips of her working out, Swift shared that she built her cardiovascular endurance for the tour by running on the treadmill with the speed set to match the tempo for her setlist songs and singing them out loud. Considering what lifting weights really does to your body, it's unsurprising that Swift's team figured out the best way to balance strength training and cardio for her.
