Fighting Cancer Is Hard Enough — Teddi Mellencamp Shouldn't Have To Defend Her Plastic Surgery Too
As if former "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Teddi Mellencamp's stage 4 cancer diagnosis wasn't hard enough, the star has now added defending her choice to undergo an elective cosmetic procedure to her to-do list — something she absolutely should not have to do. Full stop. End of story.
The hullabaloo all started in October 2026, when Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Sarmela Sunder shared a behind-the-scenes video on Instagram of Mellencamp undergoing an upper blepharoplasty, a surgical procedure that removes excess skin, fat, and muscle from the eyelids. Still, Sunder was careful to issue a caveat in the caption that Mellencamp, who is currently receiving immunotherapy treatments for her past cancer diagnosis, had received the "all-clear" from her medical team. Alas, it still didn't stop the masses from immediately rushing to Mellencamp's inbox to finger-wag and press her on whether or not she actually had permission from her oncology team to go under the knife.
Sadly, Mellencamp is only one of a growing list of celebrities who have been publicly scrutinized for the way in which they heal. Never forget Kate Middleton's famous alcohol reveal that spurred a public fight over her health, one of the numerous times she was shamed amid her health struggles and absolutely did not deserve it.
Teddi Mellencamp said her cancer doctors were 'fine' with the plastic surgery procedure
Unfortunately, once the news about Teddi Mellencamp's upper blepharoplasty broke, the television personality and podcast host was put in the deeply unfair position to publicly defend her choice. "Guys, I'm going to answer them all on the podcast with Dolores," Mellencamp stressed on her Instagram Story (via Us Weekly), referencing her joint podcast, "Two Ts in a Pod," with Tamra Judge and her guest for the episode, "Real Housewives of New Jersey" star Dolores Catania. "The things that I can tell you, that I don't need to keep answering, is, of course it was fine with my cancer doctors, that's why I agreed to do it," she maintained. As you may recall, Mellencamp first revealed that she had been diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma on Instagram in October 2022 after having multiple cancerous spots removed on her back. She then went on to have another 17 melanomas removed. Alas, things took a turn for the worse in February 2025 when Teddi revealed on Instagram that after experiencing "severe and debilitating headaches," she was eventually hospitalized, only for the doctors to find that the cancer had spread with numerous tumors on her brain.
Fortunately, during a September 2026 appearance on "Extra," Mellencamp told host Derek Hough that although she was not able to use the word "remission," she was able to say that she was cancer-free at that moment. She was careful to note, however, that she still had 10 more months of immunotherapy.
