Donald Trump's Testosterone Levels Are Reportedly High For His Age - What Does That Mean?

United States Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. got everyone talking yet again after he made an appearance on the January 13 episode of the "Katie Miller Podcast." When the health secretary wasn't calling President Donald Trump out for his "unhinged" diet — and the bizarre reason he prefers McDonald's, he was boasting about Trump's virility and vitality. "Dr. Oz looked at his medical records and said he's got the HIGHEST testosterone level that he's ever seen for an individual over 70 years old," Kennedy gushed. "I know the President will be happy that I'll repeat that," he jokingly added.

As you may recall, back in 2016, Trump appeared on "The Dr. Oz Show," wherein Dr. Mehmet Oz revealed Trump's exact testosterone level at the time in front of a live audience. "Your testosterone is 441, which is actually...  It's good," the board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon, author, and television personality declared (via NPR). It should be noted that testosterone levels for healthy males between the ages of 70 and 79 years old can range anywhere from 156 to 819 nanograms per deciliter (via Harvard Health Publishing).

So what exactly does Trump's testosterone level mean in terms of the president's health? And does it directly correlate to his golf game? While testosterone has many real effects on your body, including increased muscle mass and fat-burning capabilities, as well as improved sexual function, the age-old adage about too much of a good thing rings true here, as well. As it turns out, elevated testosterone can also affect the prostate and even weaken the immune system, according to a study conducted by scientists at Stanford University School of Medicine

How testosterone levels change as males age

Contrary to Robert F. Kennedy's on-air claim about President Donald Trump's testosterone levels, it's a well-known fact that the amount of the male sex hormone actually tends to drop in men as they age. According to a review published in Psychosomatics in 2013, the male sex hormone can drop "as much as 40% between the ages of 40 and 70 years." And as it turns out, obesity can exacerbate that. In fact, one of the key ways a person can naturally increase testosterone levels is by getting plenty of physical exercise. (A good night's rest comes in at a very close second.)

While Trump is currently not considered obese (per his annual physical exam on April 11, 2025), the president has struggled with his weight in the past, per reporting from The New York Times, so this only further complicates Kennedy's anecdote about Trump's high testosterone levels.

Why Trump's testosterone levels could be elevated

In a video uploaded to Facebook, double board-certified pediatrician, allergist, and immunologist Zachary Rubin, M.D., weighed in, explaining that there are only a few plausible reasons Trump might have elevated testosterone levels at his age, including the use of testosterone replacement therapy, a "testosterone-secreting tumor," or perhaps even just erroneous lab work. According to Rubin, depending on the time of day the labs are taken, the results can be dramatically skewed. Additionally, per the Cleveland Clinic, it's actually very hard to determine whether or not a male has "higher-than-normal" testosterone levels. "The bottom line is having super high levels of testosterone does not confer some type of superhuman ability, and so the statements RFK Jr. are making are biologically meaningless," Rubin concluded.

Meanwhile, some political science experts have cautioned that there might also be a reason why Robert F. Kennedy is bragging about Trump's high testosterone levels in the first place. "Testosterone levels have been a part of the discussion in the so-called 'manosphere' for years at this point," Collin Anderson, a clinical assistant professor for the political science department at the University at Buffalo College of Arts and Sciences, told HuffPost. "Trump, for whatever reason, is perceived amongst conservative men as the pinnacle of masculinity, so having high testosterone is a way to reinforce that image." He added, "Trump has to maintain this public rhetoric that he is the absolute best of all, ever, end of story. It's a relatively basic but quite effective propaganda strategy."
