Photos Of Jonah Hill From 2007 To Now Put Questions About His Health Into Context
Perhaps you remember Jonah Hill from his earliest breakout hits, including the 2007 comedy "Superbad." At the time, Hill was new to adulthood and not eating very healthy meals; he once told Kidd Kraddick that during this period in his life, he was "living like a frat guy."
As a result, Hill started his celebrity career as someone who was known for being out of shape. While his extra weight didn't hurt his success — his net worth is estimated at $80 million – it definitely hurt his psyche. Years later, he remarked that all the attention pointed at how heavy he was didn't help his self-esteem.
That was then, though. In the two decades since he gained fame, he's systematically worked on toning his body and improving his relationship with food. And he's definitely transformed himself physically over the years, earning a spot on the list of some of the more dramatic celebrity weight loss transformations.
Looking at images of the superstar from 2007 to now, it's clear that Hill's weight has fluctuated over time. And his most recent appearances have raised some important questions about the current state of his health.
Named a 'stud' after slimming down in 2011
By 2011, Hill was on his way to getting a handle on his eating. He lost about 40 pounds after refining his diet with professional help.
As Ellen DeGeneres noted while Hill was a guest on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," he was named on Cosmo's "stud meter" that year. But all joking aside, Hill's first major weight change wasn't without a side of introspection.
During a 2011 appearance on "Kidd Kradick in the Morning," Hill explained that going to a nutritionist allowed him to begin "physically running instead of emotionally running." He added that he was doing 100 push-ups daily.
Regaining (and losing) weight in 2013-2016
When "The Wolf of Wall Street" premiered in 2013, Hill appeared to have put on weight again. According to an unnamed source, it was the result of binge eating (via Page Six).
On "The Tonight Show" in 2016, Hill admitted that he'd put on pounds for the movie "War Dogs." (This practice seems to be common, as many actors have transformed their bodies to get a role.) That said, he told host Jimmy Fallon he was working with a nutritionist who was helping him keep tabs on his eating with a food diary. (Fun fact: Hill accidentally emailed one of his daily diaries to the artist Drake instead of his doctor.)
Surfing as a way to a leaner body in 2021
The next few years saw Hill getting back into shape. The Daily Mail published candid photos of him riding the waves on a surfboard, as well as changing his outfit publicly afterward, in 2021. (As a side note, a 154-pound person can burn about 250 to 450 calories while surfing on the open water for an hour, says WaveCamps.)
Though the pictures weren't entirely flattering, Hill took to social media to brush them off, stating, "I'm 37 and finally love and accept myself" (via The Conscious Kid). He encouraged other individuals who felt embarrassed by their bodies to practice self-love as well.
A 2022 documentary revealed details about Hill's weight struggles
Jonah Hill released "Stutz" on Netflix in 2022, a deeply personal flick that touched upon his weight and overall therapy journey. In the film, Hill admitted that he still grappled with the feeling that he was still "a 14-year-old boy who's very overweight and has acne and feels very undesirable to the world."
In the documentary, Hill also explained how his complicated relationship with food began: "When I was a kid, exercise and diet were framed to me as like, 'There's something wrong with how you look.'" He noted that he would have liked the discussion around getting healthy to have been more positive.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, it was around 2022 that Hill also admitted that he was discontinuing interviews because they made him too anxious.
An 'unrecognizable' Jonah in 2026
In 2025, Hill's appearance caused the public to take notice. The actor and director had once again lost significant weight, flaunting a very slender silhouette. One X user tweeted a pic of Hill with the caption, "What happened to Jonah Hill?"
By the time Hill released "Outcome" on Apple TV in 2026, his looks seemed to be as much fodder for news as the film itself. USA Today even called him "unrecognizable" on the set of "Cut Off," his next movie.
Reporters and online fans began to wonder if Hill was on Ozempic. To date, Hill hasn't confirmed using GLP-1s for weight loss. However, he does seem to have some "Ozempic face" hallmarks.
