Celebs Who Outed Their Partners' Bad Hygiene Habits
Tinseltown is a place where spilling the beans about celebrities is a regular pastime. And who better to dish about a star's nasty hygiene habits than a current or former love interest? Indeed, many A-listers have outed their partners for strange behaviors that might shock you to the core (or perhaps just make you chuckle).
But why would someone reveal a partner's secrets to a public audience? According to psychologist Anita Abrams, spilling the tea about a partner could indicate anything from innocent teasing to passive aggressiveness to rudeness. "If someone has an issue about their weight and you're making jokes about it then that's just plain cruel," Abrams explained to Refinery29. However, she added that couples can rebound, even after what seems like a public shaming couched in humor.
Therapist Ryan Howes sheds more light on the subject in a VICE interview. Howes suggests that for some partners, outing one another turns into an acceptable game where one person is the butt of the joke. "They both kind of collude to play that role, because it is, I guess, more comfortable than showing up for real," he says. Obviously, only the duo knows the real story. With that said, here are a few examples of celebs throwing their partners under the bus by exposing their bad hygiene habits.
Molly McNearney roasted hubby Jimmy Kimmel for his strange hygiene choices
Comedian Jimmy Kimmel's wife, writer Molly McNearney, knows all of his odd hygiene behaviors after being married to him for more than a decade. And thanks to her dishing about her husband's dirtiest habits, the rest of us do, too.
Back in 2014, after McNearney and Kimmel had been married for just one year, McNearney seemed to be way past the everything-is-cute honeymoon stage with her hubby. That year, she gave an interview with People and casually mentioned that Kimmel tends to leave the toilet seat up, adding, "And every day he takes one dirty Q-tip and puts it on the kitchen sink!" The former habit is arguably more unhygienic, especially for folks who flush the toilet with the seat up. A toilet plume spray of germy bowl water can extend upward for 1.5 meters (about 4.92 feet), according to a 2022 study in Scientific Reports. As for the use of Q-tips, otolaryngologist Nicole Aaronson warned Health readers that Q-tips can push wax against your eardrum and, in worst-case scenarios, bruise or "put a hole in the eardrum" — ouch.
But wait, there's more. "The man doesn't know how to clean up or get rid of stuff. He is bordering on hoarder," McNearney reportedly said about Kimmel, as revealed on the "Strike Force Five" podcast in 2023. While Kimmel might not be an actual diagnosed hoarder per se, it's worth noting that hoarding is a recognized medical disorder that can lead to unhygienic living conditions.
Kathy Griffin hung Jack Black out to dry with bathroom TikTok reveal
In 2025, comedian Kathy Griffin took to TikTok to expose a rather unhygienic practice of actor Jack Black, whom she dated in the '90s. Griffin recalled in her confessional-style video that she once took a shower at his apartment, stepped onto the bathmat when she was finished, and asked for a towel. "You're standing on it," was his reply, implying that he used a single towel for all drying-off purposes.
Although you might be tempted to give Black props for frugality, his two-uses-for-one-towel approach isn't exactly the most hygienic practice. As cleaning expert Marisol Rivera explained to Southern Living, bathmats and towels serve different functions and shouldn't even be washed together. "Bath mats sit on the floor and absorb all of the dirt, dead skin, hair, and anything that was on the floor," said Rivera. "This is a whole lot different than the level of contamination of a towel that was used to wipe your clean body with after you took a shower." With this information, it's also possible to conclude that, ideally, bathmats and towels shouldn't be used interchangeably.
Many of Griffin's followers found her story hilarious, as well as a little triggering (in a non-threatening way.) One commiserated, "I fear we've all been Jack Blacked at least once Kathy," and another chimed in, "I would literally pass away if that happened to me."
Brittany Furlan admitted that her husband Tommy Lee doesn't shower frequently
You might not expect hardcore rocker Tommy Lee to stick to a lot of conventional behaviors. And if his wife, comedian Brittany Furlan, is telling the truth, you'd be right — at least about his showering habits, anyway.
On an episode of the "Off the Vine" podcast, Furlan spilled the fact that Lee takes very few showers each month. "My husband showers, like, once a week," she shared, but followed up by complimenting him for his neatness. Furlan explained that, being raised on the shower practices of his Greek mother, Lee was accustomed to sponge bathing when necessary rather than taking actual showers. However, many podcast listeners found the "Greek" excuse to be a bunch of baloney, especially those who claimed they were from the same area of Europe and liked to stay clean.
But how often should you shower, really? As dermatologist Dr. Shilpi Khetarpal told the Cleveland Clinic, "There's not just one 'right' answer. It really depends on the person and their situation." Accordingly, Lee may not feel that he need to shower frequently, as long as he doesn't smell bad (Furlan seems to think he smells fine) and isn't experiencing any rashes or infections.
Katy Perry said Orlando Bloom would leave used dental floss 'everywhere'
Singer Katy Perry and actor Orlando Bloom might have seemed like an endearing Hollywood couple up until they parted ways in 2025. However, in a 2022 appearance on "Heart Breakfast," Perry revealed a specific dental hygiene practice of Bloom's that is anything but cute. "He has brilliant teeth, but he leaves the floss everywhere," Perry said. Apparently, "everywhere" meant anywhere, including their kitchen table, in their car, and even on Perry's side of the bed.
If the thought of finding someone else's used dental floss — even if it's your partner's — grosses you out, there's certainly good reason for that. According to dental professionals, reusing dental floss is definitely a mistake you can make when flossing your teeth. A used piece of floss contains bacteria that you don't want to introduce back into your mouth. Unsurprisingly, floss is meant to be tossed after a single use. If you're the kind of person who finds the process of flossing and tossing tedious, you may want to switch to an alternative like a water flosser instead.
