Donald Trump's Suspicious Hand Bruising Spreads & Raises Even More Health Concerns

On December 30, 2025, President Donald Trump held a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. As the pair talked about new strides in the Israel-Gaza peace deal, Trump's hand drew the attention of onlookers.

As he gestured, a bruise could be seen on the president's hand. Though initially presumed nothing new (as a bruise was first spotted on Trump's right hand back in February 2025), this bruise blotched the back of his left hand. And much like Trump's earlier bruise, the new bruise is of a worrying size. (As more questions were raised over the president's bruised right hand, concealer was used to cover the marking — but this only sparked more worry.)

However, as the oldest person to be sworn into the presidential office, Trump's persistent hand bruising isn't exactly surprising. Individuals of the president's age frequently find skin markings, like bruises, hard to shake for multiple reasons, including the thinning of skin, the use of medications, and the prominence of blood vessels near the surface of the skin. Due to the president's age and his recent health concerns, this second bruise is the newest entry on the list of medical worries involving the president as he completes his first year of his second term.

Speculation about the cause of Trump's hand bruising

Speaking to CNN about Trump's earlier bruise, Dr. Jonathan Reiner explained that, given the president's age, this bruising was natural; however, he also acknowledged that President Donald Trump's administration "has not been completely candid about the president's health" (via Instagram).

(Here are other times Trump had people worried about his health in 2025.)

Considering his early 2025 diagnosis with chronic venous insufficiency, a condition having to do with an individual's veins, many speculated that there may be a connection. As bruising is a response of blood being pushed toward a part of the body that has experienced trauma, some made the assumption that the chronic condition was related to the hand bruising in some way. However, Dr. Jon Lapook dismissed a connection between the two, saying that the right hand bruise was "unrelated to the swelling in the legs" (via CBS News).

What has the White House said about Donald Trump's bruise?

Back in February 2025, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed concerns over Trump's hand bruising, saying, "President Trump has bruises on his hand because he's constantly working and shaking hands all day every day" (via NBC News). Leavitt later added that the president's recent intake of aspirin (a blood thinner) caused the bruise to form more easily.

Dr. Jon Lapook told CBS News that the reasoning made sense, given Trump's advanced age. As Dr. Lapook reasoned, "Well, they say it's because he was shaking with that hand. So, trauma plus thinner skin plus a little fragility of the capillaries of the blood vessels, it sounds likely that's what's going on."

As of December 31, 2025, the White House has not officially given an explanation regarding the observed bruising on Trump's left hand.
