Reactions To Kylie Jenner's Breast Stretch Marks Prove Too Many Are Uneducated About The Human Body
At the 83rd Golden Globes, Kylie Jenner joined the string of celebrities on the red carpet to show support for her actor boyfriend, Timothee Chalamet. Wearing a skintight, silver dress with a sweetheart neckline, the TV personality flaunted her figure before the cameras. Inevitably, pictures of her from the award show circulated online, and social media users were quick to focus on the fine pale lines across the makeup mogul's breasts. In the silver dress, Jenner's stretch marks were on full display and soon became a fixation of the internet's, with one X user even referring to her breasts' appearance as "tiger striped."
As waves of criticism for Jenner's natural body leaked through the internet, it was impossible not to confront the reality star's history with stretch mark criticism. In previous years, other social media users have accused Jenner of actually showing off surgery scars, not stretch marks, with many, many others claiming that her stretch marks were anything but natural.
With this discussion surrounding stretch marks once again ignited by Jenner's January 2026 appearance at the award show, the public's knowledge of stretch marks proved to be out of touch. From misunderstanding the obvious visible lines on Jenner's body to removing the natural state of being from stretch marks, the commenters deemed the textured skin as anything but what it actually is.
Stretch marks are normal and can happen to anyone
Simply put, stretch marks are scars. They develop when the skin has to stretch beyond its capacity. Though often solely attributed to women, the truth is, stretch marks can affect anyone and everyone — including women, men and children — and for all sorts of reasons. Stretch marks are the body's natural response to growth. This growth can be from breast development, weight gain, pregnancy, or even puberty.

Kylie Jenner has been vocal on this issue as well, sharing on her Instagram story back in October 2019 that she still had stretch marks from both of her pregnancies (via Vogue).
Due to their classification as scars, you can't completely get rid of stretch marks once you lose weight, have a breast reduction, or give birth, but their severity can be reduced through certain treatments like laser skin resurfacing, dermabrasion, microneedling, and retinol cream.
There was criticism of Kardashian, but also praise
Because of Jenner's breast augmentations, some on social media have used this as reasoning to dismiss claims that her stretch marks are natural. However, others have looked to her as a role model. "I finally like a normal human after seeing that @KylieJenner also has boob stretch marks!" an X user wrote on the social media platform. And she wasn't alone, as many women echoed similar responses to the photos of Jenner from the Golden Globes. One person commented, "even she got stretch marks on boobies wow," while a third user posted, "The stretch marks, she's so real for that."
Not only did her images create validation for individuals with stretch marks, but this type of visibility actually serves as a positive form of representation. The media often promotes inappropriate, unattainable, and impossible body standards. In response, Jenner's choice to flaunt, not hide her stretch marks, poked at this bubble of perpetuated body ideals. This type of body and skin diversity is a form of representation that helps lessen the shame felt toward one's figure, which in turn aids in confidence and opens conversation, even in the medical field, about alternative bodies.
