RFK Jr. Calls Out Donald Trump's 'Unhinged' Diet And The Bizarre Reason He Prefers McDonalds
In an episode of The Katie Miller Podcast (via X), the wife of Trump advisor Stephen Miller spoke with U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., about the Trump administration's new food pyramid, his controversial views on vaccines, and his boss, Donald Trump.
One of the topics covered included which person RFK thought had the most "unhinged" diet, to which Kennedy said, "the president." He also delved into the unusual reason Trump prefers McDonald's when traveling instead of eating healthier meals from local restaurants.
It turns out, Trump's dietary choices have a sort of logic to them in that they are meant to protect his health. "He eats foods from big corporations because he trusts that he won't get sick while he's on the road," Kennedy explained. However, this strategy may not be as wise as Trump believes. In fact, it could increase his chances of developing an illness over time.
Why eating McDonald's isn't a healthy choice
To understand why McDonald's isn't a healthy choice for the president, we first need to consider what his typical order includes. Back in 2016, he reportedly liked to consume two Big Macs, two Filet-O-Fish, and a chocolate milkshake while on the campaign trail (via Time). According to McDonald's Nutrition Calculator, that meal tallies up to a hefty 2,440 calories, 39 grams of saturated fat, 285 milligrams of cholesterol, and 3,500 milligrams of sodium.
The Cleveland Clinic discusses the many detrimental effects that fast-food meals can have on your health. Eating a diet high in sodium is known to increase blood pressure, putting a strain on your cardiovascular system. Eating too much saturated fat drives up your low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, the "bad" type that clogs arteries and puts you at risk for heart disease.
Given that Trump is on two cholesterol-lowering medications as well as aspirin to thin his blood (via People), his frequent consumption of McDonald's may not be doing his heart health any favors. Perhaps he would do well to take his friend's advice and skip the fast food next time he travels.
