Valerie Bertinelli's 'Deformed' Breasts Confession Deserves A Standing Ovation, Not Ridicule
Actor Valerie Bertinelli let it all hang out while discussing her new book "Getting Naked" during a live taping with her friend, talk show host Drew Barrymore (via YouTube). "I mean, if you read the book, you'll know that my boobs are deformed, and I talk very extensively and graphically about how deformed they are. I had four surgeries in 2024," she revealed to the packed-out audience at 92nd Street Y, New York. The story goes that Bertinelli first got breast implants in the 1980s to achieve a fuller look. "I liked it for a little while and then started to hate it," she later told People about the decision. Cut to 2024, when she opted to have the implants removed following a rupture from a nasty fall. "Then my breast became infected and started to cave in on itself. It became a crater," Bertinelli divulged.
Sadly, Bertnelli's deeply personal revelation has been met with a barrage of ridicule online — even triggering an entire Reddit thread of internet trolls to openly mock her willingness to be open and honest about her struggles with her body and the way in which it took a toll on her self-esteem. "Ma'am this is a Wendy's," one Reddit user quipped. Meanwhile, another wrote, "Ok great thanks for the info Valerie." A third commented in part, "She needs to keep some things to herself, for real."
Suffice it to say, those comments certainly don't pass the vibe check. If anything, Bertinelli's confession deserves a standing ovation for the sheer fact that she is providing valuable insight to others regarding the unexpected dangers of plastic surgery, the lesser-known side effects, and the real toll they can take on a person's mental health.
Valerie Bertinelli isn't paying the ridicule any mind
Fortunately, it appears that Valerie Bertinelli isn't too terribly fazed by the backlash from her personal revelation. "I mean, the internet can be really f***ed up. Excuse my language, but it is," Bertinelli declared during the live discussion with Drew Barrymore. "But it also can be this place where if you ignore the trolls, and you can — that's what the block button is for," she added. Bertinelli went on to explain that after coming forward with her struggles with her breasts, she had received many direct messages from people with the same story. "All of a sudden, we're connected because we have a connection, and that's all we want in life, isn't it? To be connected."
According to Dr. Foad Nahai, a plastic surgeon and former president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, "There's no such thing as surgery without risk." During an interview with Reuters, he was adamant that one should focus on the word "surgery" rather than "cosmetic" when considering any surgery solely for aesthetic reasons. "Surgery is serious," he declared.
Perhaps if Nahai's cautioning doesn't resonate with the general public, then Bertinelli's will. Kudos to Bertinelli for using her platform as a celebrity to stand in her own truth and courageously reveal the good, the bad, and the ugly as it relates to her own plastic surgery struggles.
