Celebs Under 30 Who Gave Up Alcohol And Never Looked Better

In 1988, the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified alcohol as a group 1 carcinogen. Simply put, there is no safe amount of alcohol consumption. "It doesn't matter how much you drink — the risk to the drinker's health starts from the first drop of any alcoholic beverage," Dr. Carina Ferreira-Borges from the WHO Regional Office for Europe advised in 2023 about the real effects alcohol has on your body

As it turns out, drinking alcohol wreaks havoc on your skin, triggers unwanted weight gain, and even causes puffiness and bloating — and unsurprisingly, your appearance will change when you quit drinking. "Over one year of not drinking alcohol, your liver will be healthier and better at detoxifying your body," Tess Mauricio, CEO of MBeautyClinic.com, told Business Insider in 2018. "The healthier you are, the more beautiful your skin looks, so our skin will be more healthy and glowing."

Additionally, many drop a few pounds after ditching the drink. Actor John Goodman's weight loss journey was kickstarted when he gave up one thing: booze. "If heavier drinkers remove alcohol for a longer period of time, they might see weight loss, improvement in body composition, less stomach fat, improvement in triglycerides (one of the fat particles in the blood)," Dr. Rekha B. Kumar told Healthline. But don't just take our word for it. There's a long list of celebs who gave up alcohol before they turned 30 and have never looked better.

Bradley Cooper got sober (and sexier)

Hollywood heartthrob Bradley Cooper ditched alcohol in 2004 when he was 29 years old, all in the name of professionalism. "If I continued it, I was really going to sabotage my whole life," Cooper revealed during a candid interview with GQ. "It hindered the work," he added. As it turns out, this decision did wonders for his face card and physique, too. Fast forward to 2011, the year when 36-year-old Cooper was named People's Sexiest Man Alive. "I think it's really cool that a guy who doesn't look like a model can have this [title]," he told People about the feat.

The glow up is real for Tom Holland

"Spider-Man" star Tom Holland got sober in January 2022 at the ripe old age of 25 and never looked better. Suffice to say, the glow up is real. "Since getting rid of the booze and feeling more like myself and waking up clear-headed every day and fresh to start the day, I just feel so much more confident in myself as who I am as a person," Holland told USA Today in April. These days, Holland spends his time overseeing his very own non-alcoholic beer brand, BERO. "It's such a great drive for me to stay sober," the actor and entrepreneur told The Hollywood Reporter.

Miley Cyrus got a post-drinking revenge bod

Miley Cyrus gave up drinking first at the age of 26, and then again for good at 27, following a relapse during the height of COVID-19. "Like a lot of people during the pandemic, I fell off [...] I lost myself there, and now I'm back on five weeks," Cyrus told Rolling Stone. But as the old saying goes, the proof is in the pudding.

In January 2023, Cyrus debuted her "Flowers" music video — and suffice to say, the internet was on fire. "Absolutely going to copy Miley Cyrus' exercises from #flowers music video and pray I wake up with a body like hers tomorrow," one X user tweeted. Later, Cyrus even told Apple Music host Zane Lowe that she credited her sobriety journey for the Grammy-award-winning song and video. "It all led me to writing 'Flowers,' which then was some sort of key right into the lock of all healing," she recalled (via Billboard).

Bella Hadid adopted an intense self-care routine

Supermodel Bella Hadid gave up alcohol in 2022. She was 25 years old. "I don't feel the need because I know how it will affect me at 3 in the morning when I wake up with horrible anxiety thinking about that one thing I said five years ago when I graduated high school," she revealed during a candid interview with In Style (via Women's Health).

Since then, Hadid has been hyper-focused on wellness and self-care. In 2024, a radiant and vibrant Hadid showed off her morning routine on TikTok, which includes ingesting copious amounts of vitamins, guzzling gold sea-moss gel, meditating, journaling, and slathering on the most luxurious skincare products available. "We love to see a glowing healthy QUEEN," actor and fellow model Julia Fox gushed in the comments section about Hadid's post-sobriety glow.

Daniel Radcliffe quit drinking and found fitness

Daniel Radcliffe first quit drinking in 2010 when he was 22 years old, before ditching alcohol for good in 2012. "It took a couple of attempts," he confessed about his sobriety journey during an appearance on "Off Camera with Sam Jones." He added, "Ultimately, it was my own decision. Like I woke up one morning after a night going like, 'This is probably not good.'"

Fortunately, Radcliffe traded booze for something much healthier: exercise. "I don't look like a person who would be a fitness freak, but I'm pretty intense about it," Radcliffe told The Wall Street Journal in March. In 2023, he was even so fit that rumors began circulating that he had been cast to play Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
