Donald Trump's Daily Diet On The 2024 Campaign Trail Was Even Worse Than We Knew

Donald Trump hasn't been the poster child for nutritious eating, even referring to vegetables as "garbage food." His penchant for fast food has been well-documented, including by him. For example, he raved about McDonald's during a 2016 CNN interview. It's an internationally known fact, too, considering Saudi Arabia had a custom-made and fully functioning McDonald's truck made for Trump's visit. Consequently, it probably shouldn't be a surprise that, during a November 2025 speech, he gushed about the same famous hamburger chain.

Trump spoke at the 2025 McDonald's Impact Summit and made sure to shower the brand with plenty of praise. During his speech, which the White House posted on YouTube, Trump mentioned that McDonald's was the primary food he served on Trump Force One during his campaign. "I'm also one of your all-time most loyal customers," Trump said proudly, adding that, "[While] other politicians fly around on campaign planes stocked with expensive catering, on Trump Force One we served only McDonald's."

At least one photo posted by Donald Trump Jr. on X seemed to corroborate Trump's remarks. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was in the picture, has made statements about Trump's fast food diet which suggest that Trump wasn't exaggerating — and that he didn't approve of the choice.

The skinny on the healthiness of McDonald's

During an interview on "The Joe Polish Show," Robert F. Kennedy Jr. called the fast food that Trump served on his private plane "poison" (via Newsweek). "The stuff that he eats is really, like, bad," Kennedy said, adding, "You have a choice between—you don't have the choice—you're either given KFC or Big Macs. That's when you're lucky and then the rest of the stuff I consider kind of inedible." As a side note, Kennedy has repeatedly singled out McDonald's for using seed oils, which Kennedy says are contributing to widespread national obesity and should be replaced with beef tallow.

To be fair, McDonald's has a handful of healthier options. Therefore, it's not impossible to find foods that aren't going to ruin your diet if you somehow find yourself on Trump Force One and there's a big McDonald's spread. Take plain hamburgers, for instance. They won't necessarily sideline your health goals, as nutritionist Lauren Manaker told Delish. "A classic hamburger isn't extremely high in calories, and it does provide some protein to help promote satiety," explained Manaker. Other nutritionally decent McDonald's choices she supports include apple slices, milk, and four- or six-count chicken nuggets.

A whopping big meal for a president

That said, Trump's favorite McDonald's order skews toward the least healthy menu picks. According to Corey R. Lewandowski and David N. Bossie in their book "Let Trump Be Trump: The Inside Story of His Rise to the Presidency," Trump would routinely order two Big Macs, two Filet-O-Fish sandwiches, and a chocolate milkshake. Of course, Jared Kushner, who is married to Trump's daughter Ivanka, noted that he believed Trump only ate one of each of those sandwiches, along with fries and a vanilla milkshake. Regardless, the Big Mac, the Filet-O-Fish, medium fries, and chocolate milkshakes are each fairly high in calories (580 calories, 380 calories, 320 calories, and 520 calories, respectively).

For the record, KFC has a few healthier picks, too. The trick is to stay away from the brand's fried options and go for fewer breaded, fried, and processed foods. Plus, always avoid the gravy and stick to regular mashed potatoes (or even better, corn). However, it's unlikely that Trump limits himself to those menu items, as a photo he posted to X in 2016 shows him digging into a whole KFC bucket of fried chicken. Perhaps Trump will reverse his habits and eat healthier as he gets even older; after all, Bill Clinton used to eat McDonald's quite a bit before revising his diet.
