Lara Trump's Workout Regimen Isn't For The Faint Of Heart. Here's How She Stays Fit
Donald Trump might limit his physical activity to golf (the one healthy habit he has in common with his grandchildren), but members of his extended family are known to be more active. This includes Lara Trump, who is married to his son, Eric.
Lara Trump follows a brutal workout routine. This isn't surprising, considering how she worked as a personal trainer early in her career, and has been involved in athletics all her life. But her level of fitness might surpass expectations in terms of variety and intensity. Since she regularly documents her workouts on social media, she makes it easy to see just how she maintains such a high level of athletic ability.
For instance, her gym routines go far beyond mainstream. In an Instagram video, she showed herself doing several portions of a CrossFit Murph workout. If you've never heard of a Murph, it's a series of moves that include running, pull-ups, push-ups, and squats. In Trump's post, she indicates that she ran a mile, then did 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, and 300 squats. Then, she finished by running another mile.
Intense and regular exercise indoors and outdoors
Finishing a Murph allows Trump to work a variety of muscle groups as well as stimulate her cardiovascular system. And by cross-training, she can reap several benefits, such as avoiding overuse strains and injuries, as well as working multiple muscles in one gym session (via the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons).
Although Trump hasn't indicated how often she does a Murph, one couple featured in Men's Health tried completing Murphs every day for a month. They found that the cross-training exercise changed their physiques, and that they "felt [themselves] getting stronger [and their] endurance getting better."
The Murph isn't the only CrossFit challenge that Trump has mastered. A single-leg squat requires tremendous strength and agility under normal conditions. But on Instagram, Trump took single-leg squatting to a totally different level of skill by squatting while balancing on a single turned-up dumbbell.
Powered and inspired by endurance sports
Regular squats and single-leg squats work several key muscles (e.g., hamstrings, quadriceps, and glutes) that Trump uses for yet another of the exercises she likes best: triathlons. A typical triathlon includes a leg of swimming, followed by a leg of biking, then a leg of running. In other words, it's a sport that requires long-term commitment and not just natural ability.
Trump talked about her motivations for competing in triathlons in an interview for The Trump Organization. Said Trump, "As someone who likes to have goals to strive toward, I like to compete in triathlons on a regular basis. It makes going for a run, bike ride or swim that much more meaningful while I'm doing it."
Trump's most recent triathlon victory was in 2017 at the Las Olas Triathlon (via X). Trump also likes to compete in marathons, and has reportedly finished at least one in just over four hours.
