Prince Harry's Go-To In-N-Out Meal Is A Calorie Explosion
Prince Harry can probably have anything for dinner that he likes. After all, his wife, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is known for cooking gourmet meals like salt-crusted fish and chicken tinga tacos on her Netflix lifestyle show, "With Love, Meghan." However, his and Meghan's favorite place for a fast-food meal is a California favorite: In-N-Out.
"There's one at the halfway point between L.A. and our neck of the woods," Meghan told Variety in 2022. "It's really fun to go through the drive-thru and surprise them. They know our order." Echoing Meghan, Harry said, "In-N-Out is the best! I order two double-doubles, animal style, fries and a Coke! And that's just for me! Meg gets the cheeseburger and fries with sides of jalapeños. I just stick with ketchup and that special sauce of theirs. So good!" (via People).
Prince Harry's favorite In-N-Out meal by the numbers
While Prince Harry is in great shape — he's an avid polo player and no stranger to the inside of a gym — he may want to think twice about having his favorite meal too often. A quick look at In-N-Out's menu reveals that it's a calorie explosion.
Those two double-doubles contain 610 calories each. On top of that, Harry says he likes them animal style, which, according to Industry Cafe Jazz, could add hundreds of calories due to the extra spread and grilled onions. In-N-Out's hand-cut french fries tack on another 360 calories, while a Coke comes in at 130. Ketchup, at only 10 calories per packet, probably won't do too much damage to the royal's calorie budget; however, if he adds additional packets of spread, those will each set him back another 100 calories. Altogether, he could end up consuming around 1,700 calories or more.
Eating healthier at In-N-Out
While the Duke of Sussex enjoys a calorie-heavy meal at In-N-Out, that doesn't mean you can't opt for healthier hamburger selections. For example, Business Insider tested out In-N-Out's "not-so-secret" protein-style burger, which skips the bun and wraps your patty with crispy, fresh lettuce leaves. According to their reviewer, while it didn't look as appealing as a regular burger, the flavorful meat made for a tasty, low-calorie meal. You can include the veggies and switch out the secret sauce for ketchup and/or mustard to save some calories. Also, consider splitting your fries with a friend or leaving them off altogether. You can also trade a regular Coke for a Diet Coke to reduce your calorie intake even further.
And, if you just can't resist the full In-N-Out experience? It may be helpful to consider registered dietitian Lori Tolleson's advice to KGET. Keep the fast-food joint as an "every now and again" splurge.
